David Hobart is an accomplished project manager, automation engineer and trouble shooter.  His industry experience includes pulp and paper, oil and gas, transportation, microelectronics, pharmaceutical and power.  Early in his career with the General Electric Company, he was system analyst for a large DDC process computer destined for the oil industry in Aruba.  He subsequently served as project manager for several pulp & paper mill and oil industry projects in Western Canada.

During the 1990s, Hobart was resident engineer for Bechtel in Saudi Arabia, overseeing control systems construction on two major airports.  This included running projects during the first Gulf War.  Recently he served as the owner’s engineer for a power project in Ghana.

In recent years he has worked with Fieldbus Foundation as Director of Marketing and subsequently worked on Foundation development projects.  In the field, he has advised clients on Foundation fieldbus designs and has been involved in trouble shooting fieldbus installations.  He taught the certified Foundation fieldbus courses at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.  Currently he is a consultant to the US Government chemical plant safety and automation system designs.

David has been active in ISA, serving as 2008-2009 District 1 Vice President.  He is currently a member of the Boston Section executive.  He is District 1 Nominator and a member of the Honors & Awards Committee.  He is also a member of the ISA 5.7, P&ID Documentation Standards committee.
